Transport and day tours

We use a local transport company for the transfer from Inverness and for all day trips. Our transport will be in an 8-seater minibus with plenty of room for us and luggage/ camera equipment.

Locations will vary according to the weather, but we are likely to include Shieldaig, Torridon, Achiltibuie, Mellon Udrigle,  Gruinard, Loch Assynt, Plockton, Eilean Donan Castle, the Applecross Peninsula and Corrieshalloch Gorge. There will be lots of photo opportunities en route too.

We do not arrange day trips for every day. There will be two free days where you can explore Ullapool (there are walks very close by) or take a boat trip or the ferry over to Stornoway (good for dolphin spotting).  We can arrange additional day tours in those free days for some or all of the group.

If you have particular interests, then let us know in advance and we'll try to incorporate that into our visits.

To give you an idea of what to expect, here is a possible itinerary...

Saturday - transfer from Inverness to Ullapool, with a possible stop at the Rogie Falls on the way.

Sunday - based in Ullapool. A chance to get to know the town. For the more energetic, a walk up Ullapool Hill. Otherwise, there are lots of easier walks to the river.

Monday - Head off to Eilean Donan Castle, then back up to Plockton for lunch.  On the way back, we may visit Shieldaig, Applecross and Torridon (or visit those locations later in the week). Monday night at The Argyll musicians get together for informal sessions.

Tuesday - a free day. Options include the ferry over to Stornoway, a boat trip from Ullapool or a bus up to Lochinver for lunch. Or maybe Inverewe Gardens.

Wednesday  Along the coast south of Ullapool.  We'll see Gruinard Island, Gruinard Bay,  and the Corrieshalloch Gorge - with lots of other stopping off places.  Open mic night at The Ferry Boat Inn.

Thursday -North of Ullapool to Rhue, Achiltibuie, Polbain, Achnahair and Loch Assynt. A day of beaches, views of islands, and mountains.

Friday - Loch Maree, Gailoch and Mellon Udrigle beach.

Saturday -return to Inverness. Stopping-off places will be dependent on flight/train times, but if you have an early flight, we'd suggest that you book that for Sunday and stay overnight in Inverness (we'll ensure that you are not the only person doing so).

Free days can be arranged to be consecutive if anyone is keen to visit Lewis and stay overnight there. We can arrange a tour if required. We will help to plan free days, and can arrange transport.

We'll check in advance to see what other events are planned in Ullapool. The Arch Inn, Ceileidh Place and Seaforth all host events. The mobile cinema may even be in town during the week.
